Homemade Apple Pie Recipe: How to make

The traditional American dish known as apple pie is prepared with a crust made of pastry and a filling made of apples that have been sweetened and spiced.

The apples are often peeled, cored, and sliced prior to being combined with sugar, cinnamon, and other spices. After that, the apple mixture is subsequently poured into the pie shell and cooked.

The crust is typically created with flour, butter, and a small amount of sugar, and it can either have a lattice top or a solid top depending on personal preference.

So you know, it is common practice to accompany apple pie with either a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dab of whipped cream when it’s brought to the table.

Apple Pie is considered a staple American dessert and is also well-known abroad. Although it is commonly consumed as a sweet course, you can also have it for breakfast or brunch if you so want.

Here below is a basic Apple Pie Recipe and some easy steps on how to make Apple Pie at home.

Ingredients:

2 ½ cups (315g) of flour

1 cup (230g) cold butter (cube)

1/3 cup (67g) of sugar

1/2 teaspoon of salt

1/4 cup (60ml) of ice water

1 ½ pounds (657g) of pilled and sliced apples

3/4 cup (150g) of sugar

1/2 teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

1/4 cup (32g) of cornstarch

1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg

1 tablespoon of lemon juice

Zest from 1 lemon

1 egg + 1 teaspoon of water for lattice brushing

Directions:

Step 1

Pour 1 ½ cups (315g) of flour into a blender or mixer

Add 1/3 cup (67g) of sugar

Add ½ teaspoon of salt

Blend or mix dry until it is well mixed

Add 1 cup (230g) of cold butter cube

Blend until crumbs are formed

Add ¼ (60ml) of ice water into the mixer or blender (you could add the ice water in intervals by pausing and blending)

Ensure you blend until doughs are formed

Pour out the dough from the mixer or blender into a bowl and divide into two (2) pieces

Take each of the divided dough, flatten them into discs and put them in separate plastic wraps or soft white nylons.

The next thing to do is to put them in the refrigerator for about 1 hour

Sprinkle little flour on the table

Place a dough on it and roll into a circle of about 11-12 inches in diameter

Gently place the dough into a 9-inch pie dish

Press the dough on the edges and trim out the excess edges.

Put in the refrigerator while you make the filling

Step 2 – Time to make the filling

Get your apples ready (you could use Five Red or Green Apples)

Peel off the Skin of the apples

Cut the skinned apples into large pieces (Ensure you don’t include the apple seeds)

Slice tinny all the apple pieces in a large bowl

Add ¾ cup (150g) of sugar into the bowl

Add 1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Add ¼ cup (32g) of cornstarch

Add ½ teaspoon of salt

¼ teaspoon of nutmeg

Add zest from 1 lemon

Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

stir gently until it is well mixed

Step 3

Take out the pie dish from the refrigerator

Pour the mixed apple slices into the pie dish

Put the pie dish back into the refrigerator while you make the top crust

Step 4

Remember you have only used a dough; now is time to put the other into use.

Sprinkle little flower on your table

Place the dough on the table and sprinkle little flour on it as well

Roll the dough into a circle of about 10-11 inches in diameter

Cut the flattened dough into 10 strips

Pick up each of the strips and arrange on the pie dish in lattice pattern

Press the lattice on the edges to gum on the pie dish and trim out the excess edges.

Brush the lattice with egg wash

Step 5

Time to Bake

Put the pie dish in the oven and bake at 400F (200C) for about 50-60 minutes.

After 20 minutes, add an aluminum foil or a pie crust shield on top of the pie and bake for 30-40 minutes to complete the 50-60 intended minutes

Time to Eat

Remove the pie from the oven and leave it to cool as you please

Cut the apple pie into pizza portions

To enjoy it even better, add ice-cream to the top of your apple pie portion

There you go, enjoy your apple pie.
